Home. What does it mean? There is any particular definition to this concept? According to the Oxford Dictionary: "Home is the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." So can we call "Home" a place like that place? Situated in a swampy area near the harbour, The Jungle of Calais was the biggest refugee camp in Western Europe. Around 5000 people (but the real number is uncertain) from Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Kuwait, Sudan and many other places, lived there in precarious conditions. But The Jungle was not only a slum. People have builded a real city with every kind of materials. Mosques, restaurants, houses, schools etc. have arisen. The Jungle is certainly a difficult place but also an utopic, multiethnical town. A place that for many people was "HOME". |
